Can we take a moment to actually look at these?
Optimus flies in at high speed, both fists clenched, helm turned left as if that was the direction he was intending to turn in order to attack Megatron. Unfortunately, his momentum and new weight forces him backwards so that his back is actually facing Megatron. In order to compensate, he has to pivot his whole body to the right and he backhands Megatron across the face with his right hand—knocking him back—and then punches Megatron’s arm with his left. The punch appears a bit weak, but that might be because Megatron is already stumbling back himself.
Optimus’ new mass continues to be a problem here as the force of the punch twists his body so that his left side is facing Megatron. His legs are staggered, so he continues to pivot right and spins himself around again, this time trying to get his legs further apart so that he can balance out the force of his strikes. He manages, while his back is to Megatron the second time, to get his legs in such a way that he’s able to spin to the right quickly enough to hit Megatron hard and knock him back again.
It’s only then that Optimus gets his legs under him and stops moving for that final punch that sends Megatron into his own throne.
In gaining strength and durability, Optimus appears to have lost his grace and agility.
For the moment, 2.0 is actually quite clumsy.
All great points. I mourn the loss of Optimus’ girlish figure. Also, one thing that I noticed here was just how utterly FLATFOOTED Megatron is. He thinks that Optimus is alive, but THIS is not any Optimus that Megatron has fought before. He’s totally O_O in most of this, and on the defensive.
Optimus punches his cannon arm to knock it away, but I’m not even convinced that it was necessary. Megatron looks like he’s about to engage Optimus as Optimus comes at him: hand-to-hand. The one time he gets a chance to take a stance, it’s a defensive brawler’s stance, his arms and fists up. He’s not trying to shoot Optimus: he’s guarding against punches. Or trying to. That uppercut either blows through his defense, or sneaks up the middle before Megatron really has it in place, I can’t tell which.
And all through this, Megatron’s movements are of someone taken completely off-guard. As Megatron is not an unseasoned fighter unused to sneak attacks, all I can think is that he sees the changes in Optimus and is just…completely unsure how to deal with them. This is Optimus with more mass, different balance, more POWER than Megatron is used to. Megatron figures he’ll let Prime get a few hits in while he takes the measure of his newly-upgraded opponent, and…gets totally blown out of the water. He sees the changes but underestimates them.
Then, as my roomie pointed out, when they take to the air? What does he call OP? ”Optimuuuus!” Not “Prime” like he so often does. Because this? This is personal….
Also…. ”hmm…I know those colors….” Yes, Starscream, yes you do. They’ve only been the colors of the most important mech in the Autobot army for millions of years. …anyone want to take bets on whether Starscream knew very well who was coming to dinner…but knew that their guest would go after Megatron first? No real reason to think that, except me really not buying that Starscream’s keen Seeker optics wouldn’t be able to identify Optimus Prime, no matter his new shiny jetpack.
